Folk Art Auctions

What is folk art? This is art that is created by plain folks who do not really consider themselves artists. Folk art, however, is true art in a sense. Many of the classic artists did not consider themselves artists as well. Folk art is usually very simple and easy to understand and can be found in a variety of different venues, including folk art auctions.

Folk art has been collected by art enthusiasts for centuries. You can find folk art in just about every culture. This is not an American thing or a German thing but a worldwide art form. It is usually created with simple materials by simple people. The charm of the folk art is the allure. Folk art can be pictures, sculptures or even functional items. There are even folk art furniture items as well as dolls that have been created as folk art.

This type of art is often mistaken for American country art. This is not the same thing. There is a distinction between folk art and American country. While much of American country art can be considered folk art, not all folk art is American Country. Folk Art encompasses many different cultures as well as artistic movements.

Art is usually an expression of feelings. An artist uses a variety of different mediums to convey his or her emotions to other people. This can be done through painting, drawing, sculpture or even photography when talking about graphic arts. Other art forms include writing, poetry and music. Art comes in a variety of different mediums. The difference between folk art and other art is that folk art tends to be a bit useful.

A folk art doll, for example, is not just a work of art, but a plaything for a child. A folk art chair is something on which to sit; the same with any folk art furniture. While there are what are considered folk art pictures and paintings, most folk art is something that expresses the artistic nature of the creator but is also of some use, besides being attractive and ornamental.

One of the best aspects about folk art is that you can usually attain this artwork quite inexpensively. You can find it at art shows as well as small folk art auctions. Folk art is usually one of a kind. It can include pottery as well as jewelry, too. It is truly unique as well as practical.

You can find folk art at flea markets and antiques shows. Older folk art objects tend to go for naturally higher prices than newer work. You should be careful when purchasing newer folk art that it is indeed handmade. Another aspect of folk art is that it is constructed by hand. Because of machines and modern technology, there are some items that are made in factories to look like handmade folk art. Make sure that you are purchasing the real deal; otherwise you are just getting kitsch art, which is not really worth much monetarily. Take a look at some books online and know your folk art before you make a purchase.
